- Pope Paul VI says “the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. He further discusses The Essential Mission in his 1975 Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Nuntiandi (On Evangelization in the Modern World)
- In March 1990, the Committee on Evangelization of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) presented plans to develop a national plan and strategy for evangelization . Go and Make Disciples: A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States was approved on November 18, 1992.
- In his December 2000 “Address to Catechists and Religion Teachers Jubilee of Catechists“, then Cardinal Ratzinger said: “Human life cannot be realized by itself. Our life is an open question, an incomplete project, still to be brought to fruition and realized. Each man's fundamental question is: How will this be …? How does one learn the art of living? Which is the path toward happiness? To evangelize means: to show this path—to teach the art of living.”
